Eco-Friendly Materials

Olive Designs has incorporated many organic or recycled materials into its contract designs.  The composition of this type of matter may yield some inconsistencies and flaws.  Below are examples of materials utilized by Olive Designs in its products.

Recycled Textiles:

Recycled fabrics are limited to a single material content,for example,100% polyester, and cannot be backed.

Hemp Textiles:

Hemp is a low impact renewable fiber grown without herbicides or pesticides, and processed into a textile with minimal environmental impact. 

Recycled Glass:

Colored tops made from discarded glass bottles.  Each piece is an original form of art and cannot be matched perfectly in texture or consistency of color.

                           

Salvage Glass:

Discarded clear plate glass.

Recycled Foam: 

Post industrial foam.  No off-gassing occurs during the recycling process, unlike virgin foams.

Recycled Tires 

99% recycled rubber surface top offered in black only made from post-industrial tires - 0% off-gassing in reformulation. Rubber tires have a low recycling rate.

Regrind Nylon: 

A recycled durable composite made from 100% post-industrial scrap - black only. Overall Nylon has a low recycling rate.

Formaldehyde-free glue

Used in the wood lamination process in the production of seating.

Waterborne adhesive

is used in the upholstery process to adhere foam to plywood.  This bonding agent has proven to be just as effective as the more toxic glues on the market.

Waterborne finish

or hybrid water system provide an equally true finish to the all solvent-based finishes with much less impact to the environment.

Powdercoat and nickel-plated finishes

Used for metal frames. Historically, powdercoating has been the best method of applying a finish coat to metal. 
Olive Designs is pleased to be associated with a metal-plating company that meets the stringent EPA standard.  The water released from the plating company is cleaner than when it entered the plant.
